A ride of rare beauty between history and mythology that starts with the easy ascent to the medieval village of Minturno. From here you can enjoy the splendid view of the whole gulf, until you find, to the north, the promontory of Gaeta with the Anjou-Aragon castle. is the destination to reach for the day and for a full sightseeing, cycling first in the immediate hinterland, then stopping in Formia at the places of Cicero (the tomb and the remains of the villa).

On the way back you can enjoy the unique landscape on the “Riviera of Ulysses”: the secondary roads and the fantastic seafront continue to the Roman port of Gianola and the archaeological area of the ancient Minturnae.

The old town of Minturno, the ancient 'Traetto', was built on a hill relief, near the Garigliano river, immediately after the destruction of the Roman city of Minturnae in the late 6th century. The village, dominated by the Baronial Palace, has a characteristic medieval layout.

Gaeta – Old Town

The old town of Gaeta is a village of medieval origin lying on the promontory of Monte Orlando and overlooking the gulf of the same name. Here are some of the most important churches, including the Cathedral of Sant'Erasmo and the Sanctuary of the Annunziata. In the upper part of Gaeta Vecchia, the Church of San Francesco and the Angevin-Aragonese Castle deserve a visit.

The Angevin-Aragonese Castle

The Angevin-Aragonese Castle lies on a cliff defending the medieval centre of Gaeta. It consists of two buildings made in different periods but connected: at the bottom is the 'Angevin Castle', which houses a seat of the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, while at the top is the 'Aragonese Castle,' occupied by the Nautical School of the Guardia di Finanza.
