The Tower of Scauri
The Tower of Scauri (also known as Quadrata, Saracena and dei Cavallari) is located on the coastal promontory of Monte D’Oro. It was built between 1563 and 1590 by the viceroys of the Naples Kingdom, to defend the territory from the pirates that infested the Mediterranean Sea.
It was part of a larger defensive system formed by the coastal towers of Fico, Gianola and Foce. The first two were destroyed, while the last one is now part of the Gianola Regional Park.

The Scauri Tower can be reached by following an easy path, accessible to all, about 600 m long and with a difference in height of 50 m, that connects the town with the top of the hill, from where it is possible to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view.
The tower, currently without a roof is 14 metres high, has a truncated pyramid shape and is built with a sack-like masonry of limestone flakes and an outer face of yellow tuff blocks.
